August 6, 2021

The Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB), Valley Fiber Ltd. (Valley Fiber) and DIF Capital Partners (DIF) have formalized their agreement to invest in the Manitoba Fibre project (the Project). Valley Fiber is proud to announce its plan to connect rural Manitobans with dedicated fibre.

The Project will include thousands of kilometres of new fibre-optic backhaul, targeting 48,500 underserved households with dedicated fibre-to-the-home. Customers will have access to Valley Fiber’s full product offerings which include internet, television services, and phone services for both residential and business.

Project regions include West Interlake, East Interlake, Central Manitoba, Eastern Manitoba, and the Winnipeg River Region. Valley Fiber is excited about how many municipalities are included and the immediate plans for many communities in 2021. Construction has already begun and will continue to expand to the full coverage area in 2024.

“Since we began offering our services, the goal has been to provide reliable, fast, and affordable internet access across Manitoba,” says Conley Kehler, Senior VP at Valley Fiber. “We are excited to partner with CIB to deliver this essential service to rural Manitobans, and economic development opportunities associated with it; We live here, our friends and family live here, and Valley Fiber lives here.”

Hank Wall, CEO of Valley Fiber commented, “It’s an honour to be working with amazing partners who have a passion to serve Canadians. It’s exciting to be able to bring dedicated fibre to a vast area in rural Manitoba. This has the potential to level the economic playing field, create exciting opportunities, and transform the future of our province.”

Valley Fiber will administer all aspects of construction, installation, operations, and maintenance of the new dedicated fibre infrastructure. This will include last-mile infrastructure with underground dedicated fibre lines and networking equipment. Services will become active as work in communities is completed.
